Murder She Wrote to get a reboot

NBC  has announced Murder She Wrote is set to become the latest show to be given a modern-day makeover.

The classic crime series starring Angela Lansbury is being reimagined for the network, with Desperate Housewives producers Alexandra Cunningham and David Janollari developing the new version.

The original version ran for 12 seasons on CBS from 1984 to 1996, and starred Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher.

NBC’s series has been granted a put-pilot, meaning it will definitely air on the network. It has been described as a light and contemporary take, in the style of Bones or Fargo.

It will focus on a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth who publishes her first mystery novel. Spencer’s lead character will be fascinated with true crimes, and soon becomes involved in investigations.

The new Murder, She Wrote would join other 80s TV stalwarts Hawaii Five-O and Dallas, currently airing on CBS and TNT
