Star Trek Into Darkness will make you cry says JJ Abrams

Star Trek Into Darkness is designed as a tearjerker, JJ Abrams has revealed.

The helmer’s sequel to his 2009 Star Trek reboot sees the crew of the Enterprise facing down a terrifying threat from Benedict Cumberbatch’s John Harrison, who is described as “a terrorist with an extraordinary purpose”.

“The goal of this movie is to make you cry,” Abrams told MTV. “If the movie does its job, then by the end of the movie, you will have had a reaction involving the eyes.

“If the movie works, then there’s definitely an emotional component.”

Abrams has also described Star Trek Into Darkness as a hopeful movie, saying: “[It is] very much about hope, about love, about romance, and about facing something that is truly terrifying and finding a way through the connection of your family and surviving and being stronger afterwards.”
