Adrian Chiles sacked from ITV with immediate effect

ITV have confirmed Adrian Chiles has lost his job with immediate effect.

The football presenter – who earned more than £4.5million last year and is one of Britain’s highest paid broadcasters – has been replaced by Mark Pougatch.

Chiles’ exit means he has cut all ties with ITV just four years after being poached from the BBC with a multi-million pound deal to become one of its biggest stars, but he and on-screen partner Christine Bleakley were sacked as hosts of Daybreak within a year after ratings plunged and then his chat show That Sunday Night Show was also axed.

Now his stint as ITV’s top football host is also over but the broadcaster would not comment on the reasons for Chiles’s departure and neither would the broadcaster’s agent.

Chiles was the subject of a Facebook campaign to have him removed from ITV’s football coverage after last year’s World Cup, and last summer it was announced he was being given a much bigger role on BBC Radio Five Live as a presenter.
