Back to Weatherfield for Andy as he leaves DOI

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment became the latest celebrity to leave Dancing On Ice last night

He might have improved his performance since last week, but  Andy Whyment became the latest celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing On Ice.

The 30-year-old Coronation Street star admitted he already knew he would be leaving the show after it was revealed he was in the skate off with Chemmy Alcott.

It was the first time that Andy had found himself in the bottom two on the popular ITV1 show.

The actor gave it his best shot as he skated to Elvis’s Suspicious Minds with his professional partner Vicky Ogden, but he told host Philip Schofield before the performance that he was ‘pretty sure’ it would be his last time on the ice.

Following Chemmy’s skate off performance, the pair stood patiently as the judging panel made their decisions.

‘You should be very proud about your performance Andy, but Chemmy I would like to see your lift again,’ Katarina Witt told them.

Head judge Robin Cousins agreed, saying: ‘Andy you’ve been great to watch in this series and it was a great way for you to go, but I’m saving Chemmy too.’

Louie Spence finished by telling the actor that he had certainly given it 100%.

Andy appeared to be quite emotional as he finished by saying: ‘Ive had an absolutely amazxing time. Vicky is amazing.

I’d like to thank the producers of Corrie for letting me do this and I’d also like to say thanks to my wife. I’m looking forward to getting home and spending time with her and my kids.’

Following a tough result from the judging panel last week, Andy had decided to come back with a melodramatic performance earlier on in the night.

He certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to the costume department as he donned Elvis’ trademark white suit and proved he is far from ’emotionless’ when it comes to his skating.

He finally received a score above 20 of 20.5 and received better comments from the judges with Robin saying: We’re not supposed to compare past performances but this was so much better than last week.’

Girl power: Jennifer Ellison, Jorgie Porter and Chemmy Alcott won the team challenge by skating to a Spice Girls hit

Third judge Katarina Witt agreed: ‘I thought your skating was much better today, and much more in control,’ she told Andy. ‘I still want you to give more of you though.’

Andy was clearly pleased with the comments and said afterwards: ‘I know I’m not as good as the other guys but I’m giving it 110% and I put so much work into it.’

It was certainly a good point of the competition to have made it to as he got to take part in the team challenge.

Following last week’s show, the remaining six celebrities and their professional skating partners were told that they would face the challenge where they would group together and perform a routine.

And proving that they have enough girl power combined, it was the females of the show, Jorgie Porter, Chemmy Alcott and Jennifer Ellison who came out on top and as a result doubled their scores.

High earners Jorgie and Matthew Wolfenden were told by mentors Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill that they would be the team captains due to scoring the highest last week, but this meant more responsibility.

Hollyoaks actress Jorgie picked her first team member first in the form of Jennifer Ellison.

This was followed by Matthew choosing to have former X Factor star Chico on his team, while Jorgie then completed her all-female team by opting to have Chemmy Alcott.

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment was left to join Matthew’s team meaning that it really was the guys versus the girls.

Chemmy, Jorgie and Jennifer were first to take to the rink and danced to the Spice Girls hit Spice Up Your Life and did so with much enthusiasm.

All three celebrities showed off their fantastic figures in bright orange outfits and performed a combination of individual and group moves.

But following in their sexy footsteps were the men who admitted that they were going to have fun and enjoy themselves dancing to Y.M.C.A.

The threesome wore the typical PVC outfits with sparkly tops and didn’t disappoint when it came to the comedy value of their performance.

With the crowd dancing along with them, the three stars showed off their individual moves and then all came together to skate in a train and finished by spelling out the words of the hit song.

But unfortunately their joint effort wasn’t enough as the majority of the judging panel opted to award Team Jorgie with double points.

‘Both teams were incredible with lots of energy, but I’m a girls girl so I’m going with the women,’ Katarina told them.

‘You both worked it well, Louie told the teams, ‘But I feel the team who had a bit more extra for me was Matthew and the boys,’ he added.
