BBL: Glasgow Rocks stop Leicester Riders winning streak

The Glasgow Rocks proved too much for Leicester Riders last night, putting an end to the teams winning streak.

The Riders suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 80-71 to the home side.

Tommy Freeman scored 24 points and Great Britain international Kieran Achara added 18 as Glasgow added a second big scalp after beating London Lions in the cup last weekend.

Meanwhile Newcastle Eagles, who started the day second behind Leicester in the table, took full advantage as they moved level on points with a hard-fought 88-81 win over Cheshire Phoenix on the road.

Charles Smith poured in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Rahmon Fletcher scored 17.

Durham Wildcats made it two wins from two on their weekend road trip to the south as they beat Plymouth University Raiders 101-88 behind 19 points from Panos Mayindombe.

Brent Benson claimed a haul of 28 points for the hosts but it was not enough to thwart the Wildcats, who successfully backed up their victory over Bristol 24 hours earlier.

Ingus Bankevics scored 28 and Stefan Gill added 23 as Manchester Giants beat Surrey United 101-90.

With both teams cutting loose offensively, it was Giants who came out on top after Gill made a perfect four of four from the arc and Bankevics made seven of his attempts from downtown.
