Celtic star Emilio Izaguirre wins Scotland’s players’ player prize

Izaguirre has attracted interest from top clubs in England

Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre has been named players’ player of the year by his peers in Scotland.

The 24-year-old Honduras international has had a fine first season in the Scottish Premier League.

And he held off the challenge of team-mate Gary Hooper, Rangers’ Steven Naismith and Kilmarnock’s Alexei Eremenko in the PFA Scotland awards.

Izaguirre joined Celtic in August on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Motagua in his homeland.

His performances in Scotland have attracted interest from top clubs in England.

Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby said: “Emilio has probably been the signing of the season and it’s brilliant for him to win.

“He has been absolutely marvellous. He is maybe not the best left-back in the world, but he is up there.

“I think this boy has every chance to be one of the best in the world.”
