Cheh agrees new Chelsea deal

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has signed a new four-year contract to keep himat Stamford Bridge until 2016.

The Czech Republic international, 30, has already played more games for the Blues than any other foreign player since his £7m switch from French side Rennes in 2004.

He was instrumental in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League success this season and has also claimed three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups in an illustrious career with the Stamford Bridge club.

Cech has kept 178 clean sheets during his Chelsea career, which represents more than half of the games he has played in.

He won the Premier League Golden Gloves for most league clean sheets in the 2004/05 and 2009/10 seasons.

Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay added: “Chelsea fully appreciates the highly significant contribution Petr has made to the most successful period in the club’s history.

“It is clear to anyone who watched the climax to the season just completed that Petr continues to perform as well as any goalkeeper in the world.”

Cech is set to represent Czech Republic at this summer’s Euro 2012 tournament having recently been voted his nation’s Player of the Season for a record seventh time.
