Simon Cowell has suggested holding a sing-off between the next winners of The X Factor USA, American Idol and The Voice.

The Syco boss said on Twitter that he would like to see the stars of the rival reality shows go head-to-head in a “super final”.

Teasing The X Factor’s upcoming second season, he wrote: “We have a few surprises to announce soon. This is getting interesting… Maybe the winner of @TheXFactorUSA this yr should compete with winner of The Voice & Idol in a super final. Just a thought. I’d be up for it.”

However, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe appeared to mock to Cowell’s idea on his own profile, writing: “@simoncowell suggests the IDOL winner should take on the Voice and X-Factorwinners. The problem is the Idol winner will be a star by then.”

It has been reported that a third season of The Voice may be scheduled against The X FactorUSA later this year, though The Voice broadcaster NBC says that “no final decisions have been made” regarding the show’s future scheduling.

Janet Jackson has become the latest star tipped to replace Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger on the X Factor USA judging panel.

Season 11 of American Idol airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on Fox in the US and follows on ITV2 in the UK.

The Voice season two airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC in the US.
