EURO 2016 Final: Cristiano Ronaldo stretchered off in tears

Cristiano Ronaldo has left the Euro 2016 final in tears after a knee injury forced him out the game.

The Portugal striker took two knocks to his knee which proved too much, taking him out the game a mere 25 minutes into the Euro 2016 final against France.

Ronaldo, 31, was injured in a collision with Dimitri Payet in the ninth minute.

The Real Madrid forward went down in pain after an apparent clash of knees and needed treatment, but initially seemed to be able to continue.

Ronaldo had continued to look in discomfort, and he sank to the ground again in tears in the 17th minute. He left the pitch for more treatment as the medical staff made one last attempt to patch him up. He was off the field for three minutes before jogging back into the action to jeers from the home crowd.

But Ronaldo’s game was finally over in the 25th minute when he again slumped to the ground the captain’s armband was passed to Nani. On came the stretcher and his game was over, Ricardo Quaresma coming off the bench.
