GAME to restore reward and gift cards at weekend

GAME reward and gift cards will be fully reintroduced over the weekend, it has been confirmed.

Both forms of in-store credit were halted by the GAME Group following the retailer’s recent slide into administration.

“While our loyalty scheme and gift cards were suspended by the administrator during the period of administration last week, now that the business is under new ownership they are being reinstated in full this weekend,” a GAME spokesperson confirmed.

“Customers will be able to use them as normal. We’re also working hard to restock our stores, and there will be a much bigger range of products for customers to choose from in the next couple of weeks.”

In-store loyalty card use was restored late last week, but only against pre-owned stock.

It was followed by the re-activation of both the GAME and GameStation websites, which preceded last weekend’s successful OpCapita takeover bid.

OpCapita is believed to have paid a nominal fee in order to seal the claim, in a similar way to how it paid just £2 for Comet last year.

All of GAME’s remaining 333 stores and 2,814 UK staff are safe for the time being. However, none of the closed retail outlets will be reopened.

A total of 277 shops and 2,000 jobs were lost as a result of the GAME Group’s move into administration.

Former GameStation boss Martyn Gibbs was appointed as GAME Group’s new CEO earlier this week.

The company subsequently requested its removal from the London Stock Exchange.
