Hit the Spot: Brunch fit for a Queen

Decadent dishes for the discerning diner

The bank holiday is fast approaching and with it, the promise of long, lazy brunches in the sunshine.

It may be the Royal Jubilee Weekend, but even Her Majesty herself would find some of these tasty bites a bit of a stretch on the old purse strings.

Over in New York – the spiritual heartland of the brunch – city slickers can eat out in truly decadent style with the Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata. Made with toppings of lobster and Sevurga caviar, this £650 dish goes way beyond your average eggs-with-ketchup fare, and seriously ups the stakes of what constitutes a lavish brunch.

In the name of ladies who lunch everywhere, we’ve put together a selection of some of the most luxurious brunch options out there today, from gold-studded cheese to sandwiches with black truffle mayonnaise. Is this the world’s most expensive brunch?

ABOVE: The Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata!  A lavish take on the humble omelette, this £650 snack is available for order at Norma’s Restaurant at Le Parker Meridien Hotel, New York City and comes with toppings of lobster and 10 ounces of Sevurga caviar – the highest category of the delicacy from the Caspian Sea.

….

ABOVE: Next up on the menu is the “don of all doners,” an opulent mish-mash of succulent milk-fed lamb and cucumber yoghurt infused with Krug Grande Cuvee champagne. Chef Andy Bates, who created the dish for TV channel Food Network UK, even decorates his kebab masterpiece with an edible gold leaf garnish. The asking price? £750.

….

ABOVE: For those who prefer a more traditional lunchtime snack, this luxury sandwich is a mere snip at £85. The brainchild of London department store Selfridges, it’s made from Wagyu beef, fresh lobe foie gras, black truffle mayonnaise, brie de meaux, rocket, red pepper and mustard confit and English plum tomatoes.

….

ABOVE: Calling all burger-lovers… this £55 offering is not for the faint-hearted but is definitely worth its weight in beef. Made from Wagyu meat, a strain of the famously succulent beef from Kobe in Japan, it originally went on sale at Zuma restaurant in London. The beef comes from cows that are reared on beer and massaged until they weigh three quarters of a ton, more than double the weight of an average cow.

….

ABOVE: Fancy a cheese board? The Clawson Stilton Gold cheese is so much more than your typical brie and Port Salut combo. Originally invented as a Christmas treat, it comes at £60 per 100g slice and featuring nuggets of real gold – perfect for those who like their fromage with a touch of bling.

….

ABOVE: A refined chocolate or two is the perfect way to finish off a good meal – especially when the treat in question is a luxurious crème brûlée made from ganache with caramelized butter. Just one of the delicacies on offer in chocolatier Michel Cluizel’s £560 leather-effect chocolate “case,” this handmade indulgence will sate even the most discerning chocoholic’s appetite.

….

ABOVE: Forget Cava to wash it all down with – if you’re feeling flush (and that’s a big if), this £15,250 “Dazzle” cocktail is the only option. On sale at Harvey Nichols in Manchester, it comes with rosé champagne, strawberry and lychee liquor, lemon syrup – oh, and a pink tourmaline and diamond ring in 18 carat white gold. Nice.
