John Mayer cancels tour due to throat injury

John Mayer has announced that he is cancelling his forthcoming US tour due to a vocal cord injury.

The singer is currently suffering from a granuloma growth on his vocal cords, USA Today reports.

Mayer released a statement on his blog explaining the cancellation, saying: “This is bad news. Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing.

“Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down.”

The ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’ singer unveiled details on his new album Born and Raised last month, as well as a single called ‘Shadow Days’.

Mayer will be undergoing “intensive treatment” to heal. His album is set for release on May 22 in the US

This is not the first time that Mayer’s throat problems have gotten in the way of his performing. In September 2011 the singer was forced to cancel two concerts and postpone the release of his album due to the ongoing issue.
