Keegan Bradley heads to Portrush

USPGA champion Keegan Bradley has confirmed he will play in next month’s Irish Open.

The American is the third of the four current major champions to sign up for the event, to be played at the Royal Portrush Golf Club.

Bradley, who has yet to play a professional tournament in Europe, will be up against US Open champion Rory McIlroy and last year’s Open winner Darren Clarke.

The 25-year-old, who has family roots in County Cork, said: “I’m very proud of my Irish heritage and I’ve wanted to represent them in the Irish national championship.

“Also, Graeme (McDowell) and Darren both have told me what a fabulous layout Portrush is, so I’m doubly excited about the opportunity to compete there.”

Former major champions McDowell and Padriag Harrington will also play in their home event.

With Edoardo and Francesco Molinari both also signed to play, half of the victorious European Ryder Cup team of 2010 will be in attendance.

The tournament, which is being held in Northern Ireland for the first time since 1953, takes place from June 28 to July 1.
