Mancini hopeful on Aguero
Mancini plans talks with striker this week
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is hoping to tie up a move for Atletico Madrid marksman Sergio Aguero later this week.
City are in advanced talks with Atletico about a deal to sign Aguero as Mancini has made the Argentine one of his top summer transfer targets.
Aguero is looking to leave the Vincente Calderon and he failed to return to training with Atletico over the weekend as he waits for his future to be decided.
The likes of Real Madrid and Juventus have been credited with an interest in Aguero, but Mancini is hoping to win the race for the South American before the end of the month.
“I don’t know at the moment. The last news that I heard about Aguero was that the club was talking withAtletico Madrid [before the weekend],” said Mancini.
“I think that maybe in four or five days, before the next game, I think that in this week maybe we can close. Maybe.
“Aguero played in Copa America. If we close the deal, I need to speak with him, because I want to know his opinion [of playing in Manchester].”
Tevez return
It has been suggested Aguero’s arrival will pave the way for the unsettled Carlos Tevez to leave City, but Mancini expects the City skipper back at the club next week.
Tevez, who is seeking to leave Etihad Stadium, saw a proposed move to Corinthians fall through earlier this month and his future remains unclear.
However, Mancini revealed he will consider playing Tevez in Community Shield on 7th August against Manchester United if he has no fitness problems when he returns to training
“When he comes back and his condition is good, maybe he can have a chance,” noted Mancini.
“He has played in Copa America. And two weeks they [players] can’t lose their condition. After one week, if they work only one week, he can find his condition.”
