NFL: Pre-Season Round Up

The pre-season comes to a close with some standout performances and quite a few interesting developments.

Both the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks are the only teams to go undefeated in an impressive 4-0 win streak and both teams look like they will hit the ground running when the season gets under way next week.

For the most part, the pre-season went as you would expect as most of the starters didn’t participate in any substantial way.

Teams now have the hard task of whittling down their rosters to the required 53 man squad using the performances during pre-season to decide who makes the cut.

Special mention going to Seattle’s wide receiver Stephen Williams who brought down 7 passes for an incredible 236 yards and 3 td’s, linking up with QB Russell Wilson early on in the final match for a monster 50 yard pass, however Williams then goes on to sustain a concussion which potentially throws his spot on Seattle’s roster into doubt.

Some developments worth mentioning on the Quarterback front would be:

·         Robert Griffin the 3rd finally given the medical all clear to start in the Redskins’ season opener against the Eagles, RG3 tore his ACL less than eight months ago in the play offs last season.

·         New York Jet’s will likely name rookie Geno Smith as starting QB as Mark Sanchez still appears to suffering from shoulder injury

·         Eagles have finally settled on Michael Vick as their man on the trigger after an impressive pre-season campaign. Vick’s starting slot was in doubt after a troubling season last year where he failed to put up big passing or rushing yards and threw for 12 touchdowns and nearly as many interceptions.
