Not such a ‘happy’ set for Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder at T in the Park

“Christ, this is awful”, proclaimed Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder halfway through their shambolic set.

He’s had mixed reviews since his comeback from the I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here jungle, but I’m afraid Shaun Ryder is long way from his 80’s heyday,  disappointing crowds at this years T in the Park by reading lyrics from an autocue on the Radio 1/NME Stage while rambling his way through classics Kinky Afro and Loose Fit.

Backing singer Rowetta — dressed in a pink and black dress with thigh-high boots — looked mortified as her powerful voice was ruined by Ryder’s cringeworthy vocals.

The Mondays — boasting their original line-up — tried to lift the set with Bez providing his usual manic sideshow, but there was no getting away from Ryder’s awful singing.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ryder left the stage thinking the set was over before being told to return for one more song.
