One Direction admit their surprise at US success

One Direction’s Zayn Malik has admitted that he was not expecting success in America.

The ‘Gotta Be You’ boyband are on the verge of becoming the first UK group to have their debut album top the Billboard chart in its first week of release with Up All Night.

Famous: One Direction have been signed up by Nickelodeon for their own TV show
Speaking to The Sun, the star confessed: “We thought it could be the same few hundred people tweeting us over and over again.

“Until we got to America, we didn’t realise how crazy it was,” the 19-year-old singer added.

The good times just keep on rolling for the boys – after having guest starred in a couple of Nickelodeon shows already, they have been rewarded with their own TV programme.

The chart topping singers have been increasing their fan base substantially in the States and are now set to make their mark on the lucrative American market.

Nickelodeon confirmed via their Twitter account earlier this week that the X Factor finalists were in the process of working with them.

They said: ‘The rumors are true, our live-action slate does include a development project for One Direction. Welcome to the family!’

The deal with Nickelodeon could prove to be lucrative for the lads as the show would be broadcast across the whole of America and would ultimately increase their exposure.

However, One Direction are proving to be quite shrewd with their money and have come up with another way to save a few pounds.

The boy band will avoid paying huge tax bills by making themselves bosses of their own companies.

By being named as directors of 1D Media and PPM Music, the boys can pay themselves through the businesses rather than directly.

The move could save them as much as 22 per cent on all income.
