Peter Kay in talks for Hollywood remake of hit show Phoenix Nights

Comic Peter Kay is to make a Hollywood version of his hit TV comedy Phoenix Nights, he revealed yesterday.

The 38-year-old funnyman said he was approached by movie bosses to make a big-screen version of the comedy sitcom and has already written a script.

Kay’s BAFTA-nominated comedy about The Phoenix Club, a working men’s club in Bolton, Greater Manchester ran for two series in 2001 and 2002 and was a massive hit.

It featured characters like wheelchair bound club boss Brian Potter, jobsworth fire safety officer Keith Lard and doormen Max and Paddy, played by Take Me Out and 71 degrees North host Paddy McGuinness.

Kay said: “It’s written, I’ve written it. It’s done. They’ve even asked me, with this Inbetweeners film, if you want to make a film of it.”

He added that he also had two Max and Paddy Christmas specials written.
