Russell Brand opens up about divorce from Katy Perry

Russell Brand has publicly addressed his split from wife Katy Perry for the first time.

The comedian filed for divorce from Perry in December, just over a year after the couple married in Jaipur, India. Perry and Brand’s separation came after months of speculation that they were having marriage problems.

Brand appeared at the TCA press tour on Sunday (January 15) and fielded several questions from reporters about his divorce.

Quizzed on how he is coping with the split, Brand coyly replied: “[I am] quite well, thank you. Are you asking because of recent events? Well I suppose what you’re doing is you’re making the mistake of seeing time as linear.

“The brilliant American author Kurt Vonnegut, he’ll tell ya that if you imagine reality as experienced simultaneously, events become redundant.”

Brand went on to insist that the details of his private life should not really be concern for anyone except his family and friends.

“I don’t want to further celebrate the overly elaborate, brittle plastic structures of nonsense that are constantly fired into our minds to distract us from what’s really important,” the actor quipped.

“So if I’d done something actually newsworthy… then I’d cover it. But if it was just more lacquered nonsense, designed to distract us from truth, then I would wisely ignore it.”

It was recently reported that Perry hopes to reunite with Brand and is even still wearing her wedding ring.
