Simon Cowell friend ‘confirms’ engagement split

Simon Cowell has separated from fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy, according to one of his closest friends.

Zeta Graff, who met Cowell in 2004, said that the X Factor boss deemed his former partner “too needy” to have a future with.

“Mezhgan was lovely but it was all too much for Simon,” Graff told The Mirror. “As soon as he hears the words ‘stability’ and ‘future’, I think it all became a bit too much.

“She was too needy, but he did try. Simon needs a woman who isn’t defined by him, who has her own career or wealth. Someone who doesn’t depend on him. But he and Mezhgan are still friends.”

Cowell announced his engagement to Hussainy in February 2010, but their status has been questioned since they apparently split last September.

The 52-year-old recently admitted that his relationship with Hussainy is “quite complicated”.

“We have had a break from each other, and we are still incredibly close. I don’t really know where I am at the moment,” he said.

“I’m vulnerable. It’s not on, it’s not off, it’s somewhere in the middle. I don’t know if I will ever get married, but I am happy.”
