The Fray face backlash from NCAA performance

The Fray have responded to criticism of their televised rendition of the US National Anthem.

The group, who performed an acoustic version of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at the NCAA championship game last night, have since said that they knew it would receive a mixed reaction.

Guitarist Dave Welsh tweeted: “Upon thinking about it, doing the National Anthem is a bit like choosing between Jif and Skippy. You just can’t please everyone.”

On comments that his guitar playing was out of synch with the music, Joe King admitted: “I’m going to ride home on the KU bus today. My fingers froze last night. If anyone wants to join me I’ll be at the loser bar tonight.”

Previous National Anthem gaffes include Steven Tyler’s rendition at the AFC Championship game earlier this year, and Christina Aguilera at the 2011 Super Bowl, after she stumbled on the lyrics.

The Fray’s frontman Issac Slade recently vowed to punch The Killers singer Brandon Flowers in the mouth after he mocked them for their live shows.
