Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan talks show spinoff

The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan has spoken about his hopes for new spinoff show The Originals.

The potential series – currently in the works at The CW – would follow Morgan’s character Klaus back to his old haunt of New Orleans.

“It would be nice, if we were picked up… to see a little bit of Klaus as the underdog – the one we’re rooting for,” the actor told Entertainment Weekly.

A ‘backdoor pilot’ for The Originals will air as a Vampire Diaries episode on April 25, written by exec producer Julie Plec.

“There’s some huge, huge transitions [in that episode] and some reveals that will change the character [of Klaus] forever,” Morgan revealed. “We’re gonna see some tremendous moments of vulnerability, but he is [also] so… bad-ass. We’re gonna see him cooler than he’s ever been before.”

Vampire Diaries stars Claire Holt, Daniel Gillies and Phoebe Tonkin will all join Morgan if The Originals is picked up to series, alongside new cast additions Daniella Pineda, Charles Michael Davis and Leah Pipes.

The original Vampire Diaries series returns to ITV2 tonight at 9pm
