X Factor curse strikes again..

The curse of the male X Factor winner: Hopeful Craig Colton dashes Matt Cardle’s hopes of securing a number one

Belting it out: iscuit factory worker Craig Colton wowed the judges on Saturday night's live show with Christina Perri's little known Jar of Hearts

X Factor winner Matt Cardle’s new single is set to be beaten to the top spot by a song belted out by one of this year’s stars.
Biscuit factory worker Craig Colton wowed the judges on Saturday night’s shows with Christina Perri’s little known Jar of Hearts.
The original version has since shot up to number three on the charts.

But last year’s winner Matt, who performed on Sunday night’s results show, is not likely to be supportive of the new generation – his new single is only at number five.

Run For Your Life was written by Craig’s mentor in the boys category, Gary Barlow.

A source told The Sun: ‘Fans love Craig and it’s a testament to how well he sung it that Jar of Hearts has gone soaring up the charts.

‘Gary’s chuffed but obviously he’s hoping Matt’s single does better as it’s his song.
‘Matt’s a top bloke and has been putting the effort in for this single and his album. But the Gods don’t shine favourable on male winners.’

Sony record bosses have reportedly put huge resources behind the single, the debut song from Matt’s new album.

But former male winners of the show have not enjoyed huge success.
Steve Brookstein, who won the first show in 2004, is rarely seen these days while 2005 winner Sayne Ward, 2007 winner Leon Jackson and 2009 winner Joe McElderry have also failed to sustain successful careers.
But female winners Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis have enjoyed global success.
