The Wanted take on One Direction for US domination

The Wanted have suggested that One Direction are better known for their looks than their music in the US.

Singer Max George told Metro his group are “more of a music band” than 2010’s X Factor finalists.

“I’m not sure how well they’re actually doing yet,” George said of One Direction’s Stateside success.

“They’re more faces, if you know what I mean.

“I don’t think people really look at us over there as the same kind of band because I think people look at them more like a Jonas Brothers sort of band that are very TV and children’s magazine-based.”

He continued: “They make magazines instead of actually hearing them on the radio.

“I think our audience over there is sort of 18 to 25 or 30. We have a lot of radio play but I think we’re more of a music band.”

Of The Wanted’s relationship with their boyband rivals, George added: “We don’t talk. The X Factor family stick together.

“They’re very close, you know, all the X Factor contestants, and they kind of stay in that one circle normally.”

Last summer, George said that he was glad his band were not formed on The X Factor, adding: “One Direction, where are they now?”

Asked about The Wanted’s supposed rivalry with One Direction, Jay McGuiness recently said: “We’re really, really happy for them. They’re nothing like us so there is no rivalry!

“They own that whole Bieber-style mania, and they all look perfect – we could never do that. We both have our place, and you can’t help but wish guys that you genuinely like all the best.”
