Dame Judy Dench wins 8th Olivier Award

Dame Judy Dench has broken the record and won her eighth Olivier Award.

The actress has broken Olivier Award records and has now won more than anyone else.

At last night’s ceremony she awarded the Best Supporting Actress gong for her role as Paulina in Kenneth Branagh’s production of The Winter’s Tale.

She previously won in 1977 for her role in Macbeth, 1980 for Juno and the Paycock, 1983 for Pack of Lies, 1987 for Antony and Cleopatra, 1995 for A Little Night Music and in1996 for Absolute Hell.

She also won a special award in 2004 for services to theatre.

Dame Judi told press she wasn’t expecting the win and had actually lost a bet to her grandson.

“I’m rather overcome, actually … I didn’t expect it. I made a bet with my grandson and I’ve got to pay out now … we’ll go out to supper.”
